Backup camera issue with ND0294B Android Radio

Postby papaya » Sun Jan 27, 2019 11:07 pm

Hi. I have the ND0294B-A08 model that I bought from Amazon. I also bought an iStrong backup camera for it. (Amazon product # B07DLVMWSZ )

During bright light, daytime viewing, the image is fine. However, in low light situation (the camera clicks into IR mode & the IR LEDs are activated) the Pumpkin screen just displays a warning triangle with exclamation point. By shining a flashlight on the camera, it turns off the low-light mode & the Pumpkin can show the video again. In no case can my radio display video when the camera is in low-light mode.

For testing, I have changed video cables. Tried both CAM-IN & Video-IN inputs. Same result with all.

Connected to my television set, the camera displays video in both daylight & low-light modes. Camera works fine there.

Could there be a firmware update, or a settings adjustment that could fix this?

Pumpkin info:
ND0294B-A08
Model px5
Android 8.0.0
build number 201811031007
Kernel 4.4.103
MCU version CSN2_1122018_153527

I am not sure what you need a video of. I think these photos should explain it all. I have the radio set up in my room for testing...

This is the image I get in bright daylight. Works fine. Sorry I had to aim at the ceiling light as it is dark outside right now, so that is a photo of my room ceiling.

If I aim at the floor or anywhere low-light, the camera goes into low-light IR mode as it should. However the radio cannot display it while in low-light mode. It shows up fine when hooked to the composite in port on my TV set. When connected to the radio input, the Pumpkin screen just displays a warning triangle with exclamation point.

This is the camera I am using. Probably similar to what most other Pumpkin owners are using...

Hi, you can try to flash this firmware and mcu. https://mega.nz/#!efYDwYKR!hTFol86EHw_q ... VvcsasP-J8 and https://mega.nz/#!6ehAWQpI!jj75xnXPD2Ip ... oC02_8329c
Please download them(needn't unzip) to the root content of one sd card or USB stick and insert it into the GPS slot if you choose the card. Next insert the card into the GPS slot. Then enter settings - car settings - system update. Afte reboot , enter settings - car settings - mcu update.
Wait for your feedback.

OK I did get the Android update & the MCU update installed. Nothing has changed as far as the camera IR mode being displayed.

I did notice that the Ebay seller of the camera has updated his listing a bit to say this...

"★Warm Tip★ : Pioneer Series monitor is not suitable for this camera. If necessary, please contact us for the suitable camera."

I did contact them, and they sent a similar looking camera that uses visible light LEDs instead of IR. It also does not have any type of switching lens filter, as I do not hear the clicking when light levels change. The new camera works good, but is not really what I wanted.

They didn't mention what issue, exactly, the Pioneer units have with the camera. I assume whatever it is, this Pumpkin model must have the same issue.

I would still prefer using the IR version of the camera. If you have any further ideas, firmware updates, or whatever, please let me know.

Hi, you can consider our rear cam which support IR function such as y0229. It suuorts works with this unit.

Hallo ist das ND0294B-A08 das selbe wie das ND0294B-A01. Optisch sehe ich keinen Unterschied, auch MCU ist ein CSN2 Gerät.
