Issue with cold/slow/hard restart when start engine

Postby glastolover » Fri Oct 04, 2019 10:18 pm

Hi there, just fitted a new Android 9 Pumpkin head unit in a 2010 Mondeo. It is this one (SKU - AA0483S):

https://www.autopumpkin.co.uk/ford-ster ... -usb-.html

Generally really pleased with it, just a few minor niggles. The main one is about fast restarting. With ignition on and engine running or with ignition on and engine stopped, If I turn the unit off with the power button, then turn it on again, it fast restarts. If I key ignition off with engine stopped and then key ignition back on, it fast restarts. However, as soon as I key round to start the engine, it triggers a cold restart of the unit (back to Pumpkin log, and Android restart, taking ~30 seconds).

I have Googled a lot to try to find a solution but can't, can anyone help?

I read someone who had the same problem (in a different car) who said manually turning the unit off and then manually turning off after engine start worked for them. I have tried this, but for me, cranking the engine always triggers a full restart.

I read comments that it is down to battery voltage dropping too low during engine cranking, but surely if the unit is off in "sleep" mode and ready to fast restart, this shouldn't trigger into a slow restart. It can sit there with zero voltage for hours and still be ready to fast restart!

I think there must be a solution, would really appreciate anyone who can help, as it is very annoying that the unit takes 30 seconds to startup every time you use the car, and the unit is sold with fast start capability, and clearly can do it!

Are there some settings I can play with? I found a setting "Shutdown delay when ACC off", but have tried this set at "off" and "30 seconds" and it doesn't seem to make any difference. I saw one unit suggesting this should have an "auto sleep" option, but my setting does not have this.

Is there anything I can check on the wiring? I just used the supplied jumper harness to wire in as a direct replacement to the factory fit, and apart from this issue, other functions all seem to work.

Any thoughts gladly received, thanks!
