To replace it I would need to remove it from the dashboard. That is a lot of work and I don't think it is a problem with the antenna.
The USB cable is easily accessible in the glove box and I am looking for a WiFi dongle which I can connect to it.
Please consult your engineers and find a solution.
Regards Robjones
PS. I have sent a copy of this to your support.

As I said, the S4 hotspot works with my wife's Samsung tablet. I suppose I will have to buy an S8.

The WiFi antenna is just under the plastic dashboard in the car 30 cm from the S4 mobile. Shielding is not the reason for the weak performance of the AE0273B WiFi. So it seems that the range of the WiFi is only 1 to 2 meters.
It is important for me to connect the AE0273B to my house router. Although the WiFi component of the AE0273B is not broken it is too weak to be used for this purpose. Rather than returning the unit as defect I want to connect a WiFi dongle to the USB port.

Please discuss the problem of the defective performance of the WiFi with your engineers and suggest a way of doing this.
Regards Robjones

2.sorry that there might some imcompatibility problem between our unit and some phone . And there is no Samsung S4 for us to test. But we tested the s5,s7,and s8,and there is no problem.I suggest you try to reboot your s4.Here is an video about the s8 hot spot for your reference. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5UAMBnb0NKs

I have, in fact, installed the 20180814 version. I'm sorry but the data I sent was wrong. Here are the correct details:
Model: px5
Android Version: 8.0.0
Android security patch level: October 5th, 2017
Kernel Version: 4.4.93+
rocky@mctr930 #239
Fri Apr 27 15:16:42 CST 2018
Build number: px5-userdebug 8.0.0.OPR5 170623.007 eng hct 20180814.110243 test-keys
MCU version: MTCE_KLD_V2.80_1
Mar 1 2018 16:54:22
Serial number
D652A000A1C39C8C
If I connect the Repeater with a long cable so that it is 1.5 meters from the car's WiFi antenna it does make a connection.

The signal strength at this range is only "Ausreichend" (enough):

As you can see the S4 mobile has a very strong signal at this range. If the repeater is more than about 2 m away the AE0273B fails to get an IP-Address and no connection is possible.
The other problem is that the AE0273B will not connect to my Samsung Galaxy S4 hotspot. The hotspot works correctly with my wife's tablet.
Here are my questions:
1.Is the normal range of the WiFi only 1.5 meters?
2.Is there a reason why the AE0273B cannot connect to a Samsung S4 hotspot?

You can try to flash it again.
About the Wifi, 17 meters is really a little longer for the unit to receive wifi signal.Hope you know. You can try to place the wifi antenna near the wifi signal source.

Kernel Version: 4.4.93+
rocky@mctr930 #239
Fri Apr 27 15:16:42 CST 2018
Build number: px5-userdebug 8.0.0.OPR5 170623.007 eng hct 20180503 142728 test keys
MCU version: MTCE_KLD_V2.80_1

No, there is no improvement in the WiFi performance. It detects my FRITZ!WAN Repeater but fails to get the IP address and doesn't connect. The repeater is outside the window and 17 meters from the front of the car. My Samsung S4 receives a strong signal in the car.
Mobiles as Hotspot: It will connect to a Motorola (Moto E2) but not to my Samsung S4.

I am asking you and the Pumpkin team to find solutions to these problems.
Worried Smile: I am a member of the German Mazda forum and I would like to report that the problems with the WiFi have been fixed.

The TP-Link WN823N WiFi dongle which you recommended is only for WiFi and has nothing to do with 3G/4G connectivity.
In your video a different dongle (made by LB-Link) is shown. To start with, the WiFi is off then the dongle is connected to the USB-Port and the WiFi is switched on. The LED in the dongle starts to blink and the screen shows many WiFi sources. After selecting one the password can be entered and the WiFi link can be used.

My questions are:
1. What kind if dongle is shown in the video?
2. Does the AE0273B have a driver for this dongle or for the TP-Link dongle?

I will try to return the TL-WN823N wifi dongle. I am a little afraid of trying a firmware update as most other things are working now.
Is there any kind of WiFi dongle which will work with the AE0273B?
To help other AE0273B users it might be an idea for you to correct your reference (viewtopic.php?f=3&t=777) in which you recommend using the TL-WN823N WiFi dongle.
