I had to remove the stereo from the car, and undo to 4 screws that hold the screen onto the radio to retrieve the SD card. I was concerned it would make contact with the circuit board and short out the unit.

This points to the micro sd card which can be inserted to the GPS slot on the lower left corner you said .The micro sd card ,maybe somebody call it TF card or just sd card.Hope your kind understandings.Normally you insert the micro sd card into the GPS slot and slightly press it ,then the unit will lock it and read the files in it (you can click the files browser to find them). If you need to exit the sd card ,just press it again and the unit will pop it out of the GPS slot.
I don't understand well with your query, what did you mean when you said you had to take the screen off to get my SD card back out before it caused a short circuit ? What short circuit ?
Regards

In the description, it says that it supports using SD cards, but I cannot find the SD card slot and the manual that came with it is worse than useless.

In the lower left corner, there is a door that has a mini USB port behind it, and what looks like a micro SD card slot. A micro SD card fits in the slot nicely, but there is no socket to recieve the card there, it just slides into the radio. I had to take the screen off to get my SD card back out before it caused a short circuit.

Where is the SD card slot?
