Cause we have not done these similar change and the result you tested may have some risk of breaking the built in wifi module inside, please think twice.

You can try to check if the RP-SMA socket will improve the wifi signal reception.

A lot of Metal is around. My reception is poor. Can i open the Unit and solder/mount an RP-SMA socket to extend to an external antenna?
