As a follow up I have fixed the problem. I had to look up the wiring diagram for the car loom and then just move the pins on the stereo connector to the correct position (in my case the 12V accessories was in the wrong position). I don't have much experience in this area but a bit of perseverance ha...

Unit doesn't turn off
I just installed my android unit for my VW Polo and realised that it doesn't turn off when I turn off the ignition. Otherwise the unit works fine. Will I have to manually turn off the stereo each time I leave the car or have I done something wrong?
