Is it wired up to the illumination wire? The lights will then come on automatically with your car lights. I couldn't find the illumination wire on my car so I went in to factory settings and just turned the units lights on permanently

I had the same issues, wanted to use BlackPlayerEX. Apparently the steering wheel controls only work with the stock apps :-/

Thank Jammy, no problem about the 3rd party app support, but I program my controls through the key study app, everything works great, but then when I come to my car the next day the key study app has forgotten all the settings and I have to input them all again before my steering wheel buttons work ...

Glad I found this post, I've bought the same remote control unit and just spent 15 minutes trying to pair it. Shame these units seem to be more and more limited as I try to do things :-/
