Ok, so I tried my S7, which is Android 7 and still get the same message.

I'm using a galaxy s8, Android 8. My S8 did work when I first got it the unit, howeveŕ it looks like my phone got an update on 13 May and then it stopped working. I'll try my s7 later and see if that works as that is Android 7.
