Connecting a subwoofer

Postby Bandyaker » Wed Aug 22, 2018 5:06 pm

Hi I hope you can give me a few tips before I wire my subwoofer up ?
Here are my questions
1. I am connecting to a stereo amplifier with a bridged mono output . Should I use a Y splinter at the head unit and run stereo cables down the car or just run one cable and split it at the amplifier ?
2. I don’t see any controls on my head unit to control cross over frequency or line level to the sub output so assume my model doesn’t have any control ? Is the subwoofer output controlled in any way ie by the graphic equaliser or just by the main volume control ?
3. I have heard that the output from the subwoofer out is very low . The amplifier I am getting has a gain control on its input . Will this solve the issue or should the signal be boosted in some way at the subwoofer head unit output , ie before the cable run ?

I hope you can clarify these questions for me and if you have any other hints or suggestions I would be very grateful

Regards
Andy

Hi,
1.you can use a Y splinter at the head unit . I am little confuse about your the other way .How did you just run one cable and split it at the amplifier ?
2.there are no software control about the subwoofer output. I suggest you set the EQ mode as Rock or improve the bass frequency .
3.only the signal with the frequency 20 Hz - 120 Hz can be out put via subwoofer cable .
Regards

Hi Jammy
What I mean by running one cable is that the amp has a stereo input which then is bridged to mono .
By running the single subwoofer cable from the head unit sub out I could then split this at the amplifier to the left and right input .
My question was is it better to have the mono signal from the head unit run down the length of the car in 2 cables or 1 ?
I hope you understand .
I wouldn’t want to set the equaliser to Rock as this would ruin the sound to the main speakers ( I have my equalisation near flat)
One more question I forgot to ask is . The trigger wire to the amp from the head unit . Does this switch off as soon as the ignition (acc) is switched off ?
Regards

Hi,
maybe i understand. If you don't mind show me the connector of your amp , maybe i can understand more.
It should be the same to run one or two cable from the unit to the amp.
2.when the acc(ignition) is switch off, the trigger wire(amp-con) lose power .
