6.0 Text-To-Speech

Is there any way to install text-to-speech? I want to use the "read aloud" feature in Google Play Books, but it says I have to install text-to-speech. I downloaded it from google, but there's no settings in "Language and Input" to enable it, which there should be.

The android 6.0 unit does not support to install text-to-speech and use the "read aloud" feature in Google play books, sorry about this.

why not just download an audio ebook and play it

Sorry for my misunderstood about the "read aloud " feature.
This unit can support the audio ebook, just like roscored said, you just need to download another audio book app and use it.
The android 6.0 unit does not have the text-to speech settings about google, sorry about this.

I don't own an audiobook, and they are significantly more expensive than ebooks.

Do the Android 5 units support text-to-speech? Is it possible to downgrade the firmware?

There are may free audio book in our country, you can try to find and use the free audio book.
This unit does not support to be downgraded.

I dont know which country you are in but I do know that there are lots of free audio books out there, try your local library online, in Australia there many online libraries that offer audio books to download and if you google free audio books I am sure you will find heaps, its usually just an MP3 file that you play normally from SD card or similar. happy reading
