10.1" PX30 Android 8.1 unit - Bluetooth sound very low, almost non-existent

Hello,
First post here. Searched and searched for topics similar to mine. I have also reached out to customer support (support.us@autopumpkin.com) but they haven't been very helpful other than to tell me to make a video of my problem and upload it to YouTube or email it to them.
This is the unit I purchased.

The issue I am having is that my Android phone pairs and connects to the bluetooth just fine. When I receive a phone call, the bluetooth app opens -- the person on the other side can hear me, but I cannot hear them. With the volume up all the way (25) I can barely hear them. The same low volume issue happens with bluetooth music app. I have tried several Android phones and there is the same issue. The low volume issue has always occurred since I purchased the unit a few months back. I have entered the factory settings in the unit and changed the bluetooth profile and raised the pre-set volume to max... still low volume.
I purchased a bluetooth dongle from Amazon that plugs into the AUX port of the head unit. If I enter the AVIN mode of the unit, then bluetooth works fine along with the volume. This is not a satisfactory fix though as I have to enter into AVIN, answer the call, then exit out. Pumpkin support thinks I am happy with this temporary fix, but I am not...
Can someone tell me if they think this is a hardware issue (bluetooth receiver component) or a software one? I have asked support if it could be a bad firmware or MCU causing it, but no answer.
Also, does anyone know if there is a bluetooth app that I can install on the head unit that will override the existing bluetooth app and maybe see if the volume issue goes away? What about installing one of the Car Launcher Apps from Google Play that would control the bluetooth for phone calls and music? Any suggestions?
Pumpkin support tells me the unit is under warranty and it could be replaced... but to send back the unit and receive another will probably take weeks.
Thanks!
