Long Time for GPS fix in TomTom Go with RQ0278E

Postby sal » Fri Sep 08, 2017 4:56 pm

Hi There,

after I installed the latest firmware (30.06.2017) and updated the MCU, the TomTom Go app will need a long time (~10 Minutes) for the GPS fix.

Otherwise the funktion "GPS status" in the android os setting shows enough satellites...

What's the reason?

Hi,
This problem usually is caused by the poor app compatibility. You can install other version of the TomTom go app. If this doesn't help,
please show us the screenshot of the system info page.
Please first tell me your order number in amazon or buyer id in ebay,Pumpkin or AliExpress so that we can confirm more information about your unit and provide you positive solutions.
Regards

This happens for me as well, but not for TomTom - it happens for speedometers, Google Maps and also if I go into the 'GPS Status' app to find out whether the GPS system has a lock it is all blue and not green.

I have signal from all satellites, but it takes about 10 mins to go green.

This has happened since I got my unit in May - I have tried several firmware updates and it's still the same. I have heaps of other issues too (shutdowns, cold boots as well).

Regarding the problem of the GPS, please first confirm the antenna doesn't covered by metal which would affect the reception. In addition, the antenna should be place far away other wire to avoid the eletromagnetic interference.
Please try your best to show me some picture or an video about the problem. It is very helpful for us to solve the problem.

Thanks Jammy.

Buyer id from eBay is jamesnorthproductions eBay item 302160574207. Please advise the best software to be running - I'm very confident doing upgrades to these devices as I've owned 3 head units now.

GPS is in the middle of the dash exposed to the sky and nothing is near it. It receives signal for all satellites (blue indicators in GPS status app) but rarely goes green. I've owned a couple of head units before this one and they all worked perfectly (Android 4.2 and 4.4 devices)

In fact most of the time it doesn't lock on GPS - I'll take some pictures of this at some point.

I get this a lot - perfect GPS signal bit never goes green.

I find that it works better in a full boot rather than quick boot.

It happens pretty much every time I drive the car. I would say that the GPS works correctly about 25% of the time.

Most of the time I try to reboot the unit and it works great on a long boot.

I have tried 3 different GPS dongles and the exact same problem happens with all of them. I can receive a high quality signal, but not lock onto a location. I have another head unit from another manufacturer and it works perfectly every time.
