AS0372B. Background audio hiss and high pitched whine

I recently installed this unit and am having some audio issues.

1. There is static or hiss that is always present unless the unit is off or muted. It decreases if I turn down some of the levels in the equalizer. It's volume does not change if i turn up or down the music volume.

2. When the car is running, there is a high pitched whine that also comes from the speakers. It changes in volume with the throttle of the car.

Could this be a grounding issue?

I guess I should add that the car is a 2010 VW Golf GTI with Dynaudio.
