I have the Model S07 quad core 4.4.4.
How large a USB drive will the unit recognise, 32gb,64gb,128gb, 200+gb?
I have had to find an old ipod that is 30gb and that has a hard drive spin up noise when changing tracks or searching, it is probably the age of the ipod. So I was thinking about putting the music on to flash drive.
will it find a 160gb ipod used in USB port?
thanks

Well I put 117gb of music on a 500gb drive and it found it and worked. It took a few minutes to read it all but it works fine. A shuffle or random mode would be nice. I may still use a smaller drive to make it a quicker start up. thanks

I found an unused WD 320 gb drive in an unused discarded PVR. Fitted in a usb caddy. Going great. Thanks for the heads up on this idea

If you put tracks into one big folder, there is a shuffle option on the player that can be used. I tested 200+ tracks and it works fine

So are you saying that there is a shuffle or random setting on the stock player? I am using Google music which has a shuffle mode but the interface is boring.
I will try your suggestion. Thanks
