Hi, about the firmware update, the factory told us that the android 5.1 firmware was not available on android 4.4 unit, and the result we tested also show the android 4.4 unit could not find the 5.1 upgrade file, sorry about this.

That's interesting, because I've been running a custom 5.1.1 ROM on this exact same unit for a year now.

Hi,
You should be skilled to do the android system operation, and we don't negative that there is the same android 5.1 rom file which can be used on our unit, but for some of our clients, they don't know which is the right rom update for our unit due to the android system knowledge limitation.
So if they install the wrong, the unit may get irreparable damage.
We contacted the factory technician again, they admitted that they also tried to upgrade the android 4.4 to android 5.1, some of the upgraded unit worked, but some of them got problem which could not be solved, what's worse, they need to replace the hardware to solve the brought problem.
I think that's the reason why they said that the android 5.1 rom was not available on android 4.4 unit. Hope your understanding.

Given the time that has passed, has there been any developments on this topic. I would really like to update to 5.1+ at this point 7 is coming out.

Hi,
As you can see from other threads, I explained that there is a new android 5.1 firmware which is available or unstable for installing into android 4.4 system.
And normally we don't suggest our clients flash the item when the unit does not have system error or software bug, cause it may lead to other problem, such as black screen, radio not working.
If you still want to have a try, I can send you the android 5.1 firmware for your unit via private message. Hope your understanding.
