Google maps and Waze randomly freezing

Can you advise why any gps app I use randomly locks up and force quits?

I have to re open the app 4-5 times after force quitting then it works.

What kind of NAVI app?
The radio Navi or some offline apps?

Online Google Maps and Waze.

I have factory reset, tried various versions of Google maps, loaded from the navi button or the icon directly.
Then i tried Waze and it froze as well.

I use my cell phone to connect via wifi.
