I bought this head unit probably 2 years ago from your ebay store for our 2013 wrangler. Its had a problem since day one where the radio plays static 5 minutes after it turns on. Cycling the power fixes the issue, but its annoying.

Regarding your issue, please first do the factory data reset, if this does not help, I can send you the update firmware for your unit.
But due to the too old system version of your unit, I worry that there will cause other problem after installing the firmware.

If it's the hardware problem, all these do are nothing help, you can only return it to repair or buy a new unit.

Are there any instructions for this?

If not, do I just open that link on the headunit (obviously on wifi)? Do I need the mega app, or can it just update through the browser?

sorry for the late reply.
You better download it on wifi. Both OK in using MAGE app or browser.
How to flash:
Please download through your browser,copy all files to an empty sd card with FAT32 format, insert the sd card to GPS slot.
Turn on the radio, wait for about 5 seconds, the screen will popup discovery of the new fireware port which asks if need to update, click the OK.
If there is not a window popup, please enter the setting—about machine, and click the system updates and the unit will automatically detect and popup the update window. Here is a video for your reference.
