HSPDA Dongle issue with SKU 11-RQ0276E-UK-A

Hello Admin,
I purchased the 11-RQ0276E-UK-A from Amazon UK 18June2017, order# 2015-6318237-7726753 and then the Pumpkin HSPDA Dongle (order#203-4178152-9033965).

I am using a Vodafone UK 3G SIM card in the Dongle. On connecting to the radio via the supplied USB cable, the dongle LEDs flash and after a short while the radio screen shows that there is a network signal. However on launching the radio's browser or Google maps, both applications say there is no internet connection.

I have connected the dongle to my Windows computer and carried out the checks given in your youtube video. I have ensured that there is no PIN code lock. The dongle connects the PC to the internet without any problems.

Below are some screen shots of the dongle working on the PC and the build details of my radio.

Can you please advise me on how to get the dongle working on the radio.

Hi,
You can try to change another USB slot of the unit.
If this does not help, you can contact the customer service to change a new 3g Dongle.

Hi Friend,
Firstly a big thank you to your people for sending a replacement dongle so quickly. I have tried the new HSDPA dongle but I still cannot get internet access through the radio. These are the steps I've taken:
1. I inserted my SIM card into the dongle and connected it to my Windows PC as shown in your Youtube video. Connection was made and a PING test was successful. I was also able to send and receive SMS/text messages through the dongle (FIG 1a & 1b)
2. I connected the HSDPA dongle to the radio USB socket and within a minute or so the cellular network signal was visible on the radio screen but using Google Maps as a test application, no internet connection was made (see FIG 2a). Trying the dongle in either of the USB sockets made no difference
3. I reset the radio and this time the cellular network signal symbol showed an exclamation mark (Fig 2b)- still no internet connection.
4. I unplugged the HSDPA dongle and connected the radio to my smartphone's hotspot (tethered) and connection to the Google Maps server was successful (FIG 3)

So both HSDPA dongles work with a Windows PC but not the radio - this does indicate a problem with the radio's settings or firmware.

I am very pleased with my Pumpkin in all other respects and I am happy to help you solve this problem - testing new firmware; running test scripts; collecting error logs or in any other way. :?: I understand that writing new firmware takes time but I am happy to wait for a fix.

Hi,
we suggest you try to use your local 3g dongle.Maybe it is the compability problem between the sim card and the 3g dongle .

Dear Jammy,
A few days ago I reported that the replacement HSDPA dongle still did not work with the Radio. Please let me know how to proceed?

Am I to ask for my money back on the dongle or are you going to re-write the firmware which I am happy to be a beta tester for?

Hi,
we still suggest you try to use your local 3g dongle or change a WCDMA sim card from different operator . The test result can show you whether the sim card or the 3g dongle conpability problem or the unit itself problem.
you can also contact the customer service to send the 3g dongle back and get the refund.

Hello Again,
Still no success with the dongle - here are the tests I have done
> I have used a different SIM card (THREE UK network)
> The dongle with the THREE SIM card when attached to my Windows PC connects to the internet OK (see picture of PING test below)
> Connecting the dongle with the THREE SIM card to the Pumpkin Radio shows a good cellular signal on the screen. Sometimes the signal strength also shows an exclamation mark (like this - !) and sometimes the '3G' symbol
> The LEDs on the dongle are lit but not flashing and the RADIO does not connect to the Internet

IN SUMMARY
> I have tried two different dongles and two different cellular networks (Vodafone UK and THREE UK).
> Both SIMs and dongle work with the Windows PC but not the RADIO

The RADIO obviously sees the Dongle to give a cellular signal strength reading but something in the firmware/software is not connecting. If the radio were like a smartphone, you would think that MOBILE DATA needs to be switched on, but there is nothing in the RADIO's settings to do this.

All the indications are that something in the RADIO is not quite right.
