AE0273B 3G modem APN settings

I have the 3G modem dongle, and it's recognised (I see a little empty triangle in the status bar, which only appeared once I plugged in the dongle) but it never connects.

I tried it on a PC and it connects if I put the right APN details in.

I need to know how to set the APN details on the head unit, but there does not seem to be any app or settings for the modem.

OK,

So the empty triangle gets filled in (showing signal strength) of the network, but I never get any mobile data. I downloaded an app from the play store that lets me see the APN settings (and there were several there, but not the right ones for my pre pay sim). I added and set the correct ones. Rebooted but google maps and google play store say I am not connected to the internet.

Please let me know how to resolve this issue. As I'm getting pretty frustrated by getting this device online. I had wanted to use the hotspot on my iPhone but that only ever works after a full reboot of the head unit, so I bought this modem and an extra SIM, but now thats not working either!!!

I might have to return the modem and buy a 4G wifi access point (but I'm worried it might be the same as the iPhone and only connect after a reboot, although it happily connects to my home wifi all the time)

Update,

I have now tried 2 different SIM cards, one on the EE network, the other on the O2 network (both uk) and it's not giving me mobile data at all. I have also tried a second non pumpkin modem and that one also doesn't work (it looks the same as the pumpkin one but says HSUPA on it instead of HSDPA)

when you are using 3G modem with the pumpkin unit,please confirm that your sim card support WCDMA format.
