WiFi connects, but won't pull data from hotspot

I purchased this unit a couple weeks ago and like it, but I can't get it to connect to the internet through a hotspot.

1. When connected to home network, data connection is fine.
2. Connect to hotspot = connects to hotspot but data connection.
3. When other devices connect to hotspot, data is received fine.

I use PDAnet+ for the hotspot on a samsung note 3 running android 5.0

Any help resolving this problem is appreciated.

Hi, sorry that i don't know well with the PDAnet+ app , maybe there is some incompatibility between it and our car stereo.However,why not directly use the hotspot on the samsung note 3 itself ? Hope this will help you .

Is there another way to get Internet to the head unit from my phone? USB or Bluetooth possibly?

OP here. I do have Internet now using foxfi hotspot on my note 3. PDAnet+ didn't work for some reason.

Jammy, not 100% sure but I read about some units only being able to get Internet through wifi, or a 3g/4G type dongle. If you have the time, the XDA developer forums have lots of info about all android head units. It's a great resource to learn about these things.
